Be Involved With The Fellowship Of Other Christians God knew that Christians would need the fellowship of other Christians to help and encourage. In fact He gave us an admonition through the writer of the book of Hebrews to not forget to gather together: "Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another..." Hebrews 10:25a As this writer indicates, we are to gather together to encourage each other. Our encouragements are needed so that we can sharpen our spiritual skills, answer our spiritual questions, and have allies in our struggles with temptations and the world: "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." Proverbs 27:17
"If one falls down, his friend can help him up. but pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!" Ecclesiastes 4:10
Fellowship was a constant pattern of the early believers, for all the same purposes:
"They devoted themselves to the Apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer." Romans 1:12
We cannot accomplish the tasks alone - there is no such thing as a 'loner Christian.' We completely rely on Christ for strength and peace, and we rely on the Church as a source of training and of encouragement and fellowship. It can be viewed as our 'base of operations', from which we carry on the battles of life, doubt, and sin in this world in our constant struggle to be like Jesus.
