Fulfill Your Need For Spiritual Food
As a new Christian, you will find that you desire to grow. But you must start with the basics of Christianity (milk, not meat.)
"Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good." 1 Peter 2:2
Don't just start reading the Bible at Genesis. That will be confusing. Understand how the Bible is arranged, and learn how to find what you want in it with concordances and with indexes. Start with the book of Mark, which is a clearly written Gospel of the Life of Christ. Learn about the life of Christ, and His teachings and His expectations. Write down your questions, and attempt to find the answer in the Bible for yourself first, and then discuss the answers with someone who is more mature in their Christianity. As you read, ask yourself several questions:
What can I learn about Jesus from this passage, and what should I be doing about it now?
But above all, focus on the life of Christ. Learn what He taught in the gospels. Once you have read these, begin with the epistles written by the Apostle Paul. His books were written for the various churches in the areas, addressing specific questions and issues that they all had in their quest for spiritual maturity. In this study, ask yourself similar questions:
What can I learn about being a Christian from this passage, and what should I be doing about it now?
All of this study will whet your appetite for spiritual food, and help keep you focused on Jesus. Spiritual food has a similar effect on our spiritual life as does physical food on our physical bodies. If we starve ourselves of food, we DIE. To keep your spiritual life healthy, you must get into a disciplined routine of ingesting spiritual food. When we understand the GRANDEUR, the AWESOMENESS, and the LOVE of God and of Jesus, we will be inclined to learn as much as we can about them to understand them more, and to assure that we are within their will!
